Lesson Reviews

"I have started playing flute 8 months ago (in September).  I have only played the piano when I was a child but with Sara Hahn's instruction and
inspiration playing the flute has become a precious part of my life. She has always encouraged me and showed me all kinds of tricks and
techniques that made playing the flute more approchable and enjoyable. You might feel that just buying a book is enough to learn but I found
that having a good and professional teacher (as I have found in Sara) makes the difference between just giving up when you get stuck and
having someone who can help you to have a break through." Yumi Sato

"The most important thing to say is WOW! As a self taught flutist I was really self conscious about my playing since I had come up with it on my own. Sarah Gieck was very understanding (even though I didn't play all that well) and gave me lots of helpful tips in the first lesson! I was convinced immediately! Ever since I started getting lessons I have become more confident in my flute playing and I have improved a lot! Sarah is really skilled at illustrating complex concepts in a more understandable and imaginative way; this helps her push her students to become more skilled players. Sara Hahn, though I've only had the honour of playing for her in a masterclass, is similarly gifted in her teaching. I played the Carmen Entr'act and I learned a lot in only fifteen odd minutes! I am proud of every accomplishment that I have gained by being a student here, and I already feel more confident as I pursue flute with more determined obsessiveness!" - Ryan Mikalson

"I’ve been learning from and inspired by Sara Hahn for 5 months. We have so much fun during lessons that we always seem to run out of time.  Additional workshops, master-classes and recitals offer me opportunity for learning, performing and hearing other students.  Sara’s tutoring and advice has helped me improve musicianship and skills so that I was successful in achieving a spot on the “audition only” Aberhart High School Wind Ensemble. "

"Sarah Gieck is a tremendous teacher. She has the insight to find out what her students need, and the ability to provide the tools needed for each student to achieve. Sarah’s abilities as a performer are equal to her abilities as a teacher; she teaches not only to play, but to create music. Sarah has taught me that we can play from the page immaculately, but when we put heart and feeling into what we are playing is when the music truly speaks. This is one of the biggest challenges we face in our growth as musicians, and it is a challenge that Sarah has triumphed not only in herself, but in her students as well. To learn from Sarah has been the most rewarding experience of my university education." Calista Lonsdale

"My daughter and I both look forward to the flute lesson as one of the highlights of the week. Sarah Gieck manages to encourage her students to take risks and grow, backed by her expertise. During the past year my daughter made considerable progress in improving the quality of the sound of her flute playing. She states that playing the flute has made her more confident and that Sarah has taught her that making mistakes is normal while being kind to oneself has to be practiced. Music is playing an important part in discovering her identity" - Mahalia Schubert

"Well, let's started off by saying...HAVE I EVER ACCOMPLISHED A LOT WITH YOU! My first impression with you was with Chrissy, and I could not believe how much you are compared to all the other teachers I had! For the first few weeks, just like Chrissy promised, my tone improved lots! Following that, I had one of my most successful recitals with my first ever grade 8 piece that you taught me! Not only that, I also won the Most Outstanding Woodwind Soloist Award from AIBF! The success only kept on coming as I successfully played in Kiwanis Festivals and being accepted by the Mount Royal Music Academy and also completing my RCM Exam. The happiest thing that made all my efforts worth it (Yes! Practicing scales and stuff every single day ='[ ) was me being accepted into the Calgary Youth Orchestra a few days ago! I am very happy with every accomplishment I had with you and I hope there will be a lot to come." - Brendan Pan (Student of Sarah Gieck)

"As an adult student I was looking to accomplish some old goals left unfinished from my teenage years.  I felt that Sarah was very professional and knowledgeable in teaching flute.  She was able to bring methods from the masters of the instrument to her studio for my benefit.  The flute is a dynamic and fun instrument to play, especially when one is lucky enough to be taught well, by a teacher like Sarah Gieck!" - Jodie Pack
